Permanent Cosmetics FAQ's

What Is Semi-Permanent Make-up?

Semi-permanent make-up, micropigmentation and cosmetic tattooing all fall under the same title. This is the application of non-toxic hypo-allergenic pigment placed into the top layer of the skin to imitate perfectly applied make-up or natural hair strokes.

Who would benefit from Semi-Permanent Make-up?

Semi-permanent make-up is used for many different reasons. For example, if you have scarring, have had alopecia, have undergone chemotherapy, to help disguise skin imperfections, if you struggle putting make-up on, if you have old work needing corrected, if you are an athlete or just for convenience. Imagine perfectly applied make-up no smudging, all day, every day.

What treatments do you offer?

Treatments include...

  • Eyelash enhancement
  • Fluffy brow
  • Colour corections
  • Lip liner/ lip blend
  • Beauty spot

How long does it take?

This is very much depending on the area being worked on and the effect wanted. You would expect:

  • A consultation to take 1 hour
  • First treatment to last 2 hours
  • Top up treatment (4-6 weeks later) to take 1.5 hours

How long does it last?

We call this semi-permanent as it can last from 1-3 years in your skin. As the pigment fades through time traces of the pigment may stay in your skin for longer. A top up treatment will be required after 1-2 years. Different areas of your face will fade at different rates due to lifestyles, age, skin type, exfoliation process and the density of colour initially applied.

Does it hurt?

Well this is the million dollar question and as much as we would love to say that this is pain-free, it is still a form of tattooing! A topical anaesthetic is applied prior to treatment to minimise pain. Most if not all of our clients find the treatments relatively pain free.

How obvious will it be?

This is very much depending on the nature of the area and the chosen effect. Straight after treatment you would find that the pigment looks 30-50% darker than the desired result. However, you would definitely be able to resume normal life with few noticing!

What is involved?

An initial consultation is essential to ensure that we can do the necessary paperwork and patch tests. For the brows, I will tint and wax them and fill them in to show you what is achievable. Likewise, with the lips and liner, I will draw on and give you an idea of the potential. All this will be carried out, taking into consideration your expectations and your individual facial features to which would compliment you best.

Is it safe?

This treatment is medically approved safe. Be assured the pigments which are used are to the highest standards and made from non-toxic hypoallergenic properties.

What pre-care advice is recommended?

Prior to eyelash enhancements/ eyeliner procedures, it is advised that you do not perm or curl your lashes two weeks before or after. Also if you wear glasses, bring them with you as lenses are not advised for 24 hours after treatment. Lash tinting is at least 1 week prior. Prior brow treatment tinting and waxing done at least 2 weeks prior. Prior to lip treatment, it is advised to use an anti-cold sore cream, for example, Zovriax at least 2 week before. Botox injections and lip fillers should be carried out at least 1 month before or after semi-Permanent make-up. No alcohol prior to treatment.

What after-care advice is recommended?

You will receive an aftercare leaflet and a soothing balm to apply for 5-7 days post procedure. During this time avoid hot baths, hot showers, Jacuzzis or saunas for at least 24 hours post treatment. Do not touch, pick or scratch for at least 4 days after to avoid infection. It is normal for redness, swelling, tenderness, flaking, dryness and itching to occur during this time. No sun or facial treatments for at least 2 weeks after treatment.  AHA products, glycolics, retinoic acids or anything to correct tone, exfoliation or anti-aging can discolour your permanent makeup. If you are going for an MRI you would need to notify them. Blood donations should be avoided for 1 year after. No lash tints until 2 weeks after. Laser eye surgery, eye lift surgery or blepharoplasty should not be carried out until 3 months after eyeliner procedure. Pigment will lighten during the healing process so expect to see at least 3 differnent colours when you are in the healing process:

  • The initial colour 30-50% darker than desired result
  • 1 week in 90% lighter than initial colour
